Diego Rivera (Mexico, 1886-1957)

One of the most recognized Mexican artists of the twentieth century, his work focuses on Mexico’s history, pre-Columbian past, revolution and industry. After his training at Academia de San Carlos and his stay in Europe, he assimilated trends such as Impressionism and Cubism. He returned to Mexico in 1921 and created murals in institutions such as Secretaría de Educación and Palacio Nacional. He also lived and worked in the United States, where he made murals such as The Detroit Industry. He was hired by Rockefeller to make a mural at Rockefeller Center in New York; when he painted Lenin, the mural was covered and he returned to Mexico. In those years, the famous meeting between Rivera, Breton and Trotsky took place in Coyoacán, Mexico City.
