Emiliano Augusto Cavalcanti (Brazil, 1897-1976)


Painter, illustrator, cartoonist, engraver, muralist, journalist and set designer. He began his career in 1914 as a cartoonist for Fon-Fon magazine. He coordinated Semana de Arte Moderno and exhibited twelve works in 1922. After his stay in Paris from 1923 to 1926, he adopted a nationalist premise and joined the Communist Party in 1928. He founded Clube dos Artistas Modernos and worked in media and publications. His work reveals social critique and political commitment.
